Part 5

Romans 8: 14-17

14 For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, they are the sons of God. 15 For ye have not received the spirit of bondage again to fear; but ye have received the Spirit of adoption, whereby we cry, Abba, Father. 16 The Spirit itself beareth witness with our spirit, that we are the children of God: 17 And if children, then heirs; heirs of God, and joint-heirs with Christ; if so be that we suffer with him, that we may be also glorified together. KJV

We receive the Spirit of God when we are saved and receive Jesus as Lord. What stands out here is ‘relationship’. We are sons of God.

Notes (Tyndale Life Application Study Bible Romans 8:14-17)

14-17. Paul uses adoption to illustrate the believer’s new relationship with God. In Roman culture, the adopted person lost all rights in his old family and gained all the rights of a legitimate child in his new family. He became a full heir to his new father’s estate. Likewise, when a person becomes a Christian, he gains all the privileges and responsibilities  of a child in God’s family. One of these outstanding privileges is being led by the Spirit (see Galatians 4:5,6).

  • 5 God did this so that he could buy freedom for those who were under the law. His purpose was to make us his children. 6 And you are God’s children. That is why God sent the Spirit of his Son into your hearts. The Spirit cries out, “Father, dear Father.” Galatians 4: 5, 6 ICB

We may not always feel like we belong to God,  but the Holy Spirit is our witness. His inward presence reminds us of who we are and encourages us with God’s love. We are no longer cringing and fearful slaves; instead, we are the Master’s children.

What a privilege! Because we are God’s children, we share in great treasures as joint-heirs. God has already given us his best gifts: his Son, forgiveness, and eternal life; and he encourages us to ask him for whatever we need.

17. There is a price for being identified with Jesus. Along with the great treasures, Paul mentions the suffering that Christians must face. What kinds of suffering are we to endure? For first-century believers, there was economic and social persecution, and some even faced death. We, too, must pay a price for following Jesus.

In many parts of today’s world, Christian’s face pressures just as severe as those faced by Christ’s first followers. Even in countries where Christianity is tolerated or encouraged, Christians must not become complacent. To live as Jesus did-serving others, giving up one’s own rights, resisting pressures to conform to the world—always exacts a price. Nothing we suffer however can compare to the great price Jesus paid to save us.

Galatians 3:29 And if ye be Christ’s, then are ye Abraham’s seed, and heirs according to the promise. KJV

Isaiah 54:17 No weapon formed against you shall prosper, And every tongue which rises against you in judgment You shall condemn. This is the heritage of the servants of the Lord, And their righteousness is from Me,” Says the Lord. NKJV

Romans 8:14-17  Translations

14 The true children of God are those who let God’s Spirit lead them. 15 The Spirit we received does not make us slaves again to fear; it makes us children of God. With that Spirit we cry out, “Father. 16 And the Spirit himself joins with our spirits to say we are God’s children. 17 If we are God’s children, we will receive blessings from God together with Christ. But we must suffer as Christ suffered so that we will have glory as Christ has glory. NCV

Let’s talk about the ‘S’ word in the 17th verse. Yea, and all that will live godly in Christ Jesus shall suffer persecution. 2 Timothy 3:12. KJV. There are types of suffering or reasons for suffering. “Suffering is a product of the fall, a consequence of human sin against God (Romans 5:12; 1 Corinthians 15:21). Suffering is in our lives because we are living in a broken world. Being a Christian/Believer does not exempt us from suffering. Some suffering is due to our sinful and wrong choices, but some is due simply to the world being in a fallen state (www.gcu.edu).  Some suffer for the cause of Christ.

  • For you have been granted [the privilege] for Christ’s sake not only to believe in (adhere to, rely on, and trust in) Him, but also to suffer in His behalf. 30 So you are engaged in the same conflict which you saw me [wage] and which you now hear to be mine [still]. Philippians 1:29-30.

12 Beloved, think it not strange concerning the fiery trial which is to try you, as though some strange thing happened unto you: 13 But rejoice, inasmuch as ye are partakers of Christ’s sufferings; that, when his glory shall be revealed, ye may be glad also with exceeding joy. 14 If ye be reproached for the name of Christ, happy are ye; for the spirit of glory and of God resteth upon you: on their part he is evil spoken of, but on your part he is glorified. 15 But let none of you suffer as a murderer, or as a thief, or as an evildoer, or as a busybody in other men’s matters. 16 Yet if any man suffer as a Christian, let him not be ashamed; but let him glorify God on this behalf. 17 For the time is come that judgment must begin at the house of God: and if it first begin at us, what shall the end be of them that obey not the gospel of God? 1 Peter 4:12-19

Whatever the type, cause, or reason for suffering there is a solution. Living life on God’s terms. This is a faith walk. For we walk by faith and not by sight. We understand that God loves us and is with us as we endure suffering. However, we have a responsibility, by faith, to align with what God says and to declare that over ourselves. Father we thank you that you are near to the broken-hearted. We thank you that the joy of the Lord is our strength.

If you are suffering from a health condition or whatever you may be going through, apply God’s Word with your medicine. We say what the written Word says and come into agreement with it. You believe the Word and trust God completely. Have faith in God and receive everything He has for you by faith. Open you mouth and begin to confess your healing, your deliverance, in the name of Jesus. Then combine your faith with your confession and see yourself free, see yourself healed. Take the time to imagine you are healed you are free from all bondage. Picture yourself healed, delivered and set free in the name of Jesus.

I remember a former patient, she was in her 90s and each time (3 or 4 times a day) I would give her her medication; she would have me to sit down and talk about Jesus. Once she was satisfied with my report, she started by saying Lord if it’s anything in my heart that’s not right with you, please forgive me. She would slowly take one pill at a time and bless each pill; I take this pill in the name of my Lord and Savior Jesus Christ; don’t let it harm me, let it only do me good in the name of Jesus. Then she would testify about God’s goodness to her all these years. And on to the next pill. She did not play about those eye drops. Praying/saying, Lord when she puts these drops in my eyes help me to see with my spiritual eyes in the name of Jesus.

Some  nurses were irritated by her but I realized that she was God’s gift to us. Lord I thank you for your gift. She taught me how to yield to when Holy Spirit is speaking, even if it’s during a busy hectic time like med pass. I learned that when you make room for God, He will bless your time. God will give you speed, efficiency, and grace for the tasks at hand. She taught me don’t leave Jesus out of anything. Make the time, take the time. She taught me to honor God and his vessels. She would say, Rhonda come here lean down to me, “Baby you don’t never know what you gone go through in this life but the Lord is with you. He will never leave you. And you gaining too much weight”. Everything she ever told me has come to pass.

Father, in the name of Jesus thank you Lord. God I thank you. Oh Father, thank you. Father please forgive me for all my sins, Lord for known and unknown sins. O God create within me a clean heart and renew the right spirit within me. Our Father which are in heaven, hallow would be your name. Your kingdom come your will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. Forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us. Lead us not into temptation but deliver us. For thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever and ever. Amen.

Father thank you for keeping us from seen and unseen dangers. Thank you for your hedge of protection around us. Thank you for life, health, and strength. Thank you that you have me clothed in my right mind with health and strength. Thank you for the activity of my limbs. Lord thank you for the opportunity to thank you one more time. Hallelujah Hallelujah Hallelujah.

Lord I lift those who are suffering, Lord help them in the name of Jesus. I pray they come to repentance and seek you Lord. Father I intercede on their behalf. God of all comfort help them, heal them, deliver them, set them free; send the suffering your help God in the mighty name of Jesus. Father lift up their bowed down head and cause them to hope in God; to hope again in spite of what they are going through. Lord, Dispatch angels to their rescue. No weapon that is formed against them will be able to prosper in the name of Jesus. Lord we speak strength to them right now. The Blood of Jesus cover them in the name of Jesus. Father, I called upon the Lord in distress and you heard me and helped me, Help them Father. Thank you Father in the name of Jesus. I cover them with Psalm 23 and 91 in the name of Jesus. We bind every oppression in the name of Jesus and we loose freedom and peace over them in the name Jesus thank you that every fiery dart is quenched. Father we pray that you shine your glorious spotlight on people who are being human trafficked. We pray for new task forces to be established and operated by people who are filled and led by the Holy Spirit; expose wickedness and locate perpetrators in the name of Jesus. I pray they are located in the Spirit, uprooted and dismantled by the Fire of the Holy Ghost. Father we declare miraculous recoveries and reunification with their families. Father let new programs come forth to address their needs as they heal and recover. Mighty God. Father we speak to this mountain and command it to be removed in the name of Jesus Christ.  Thank you Father, you are our faithful God and all things are possible through you. We seal this prayer in Psalm 136 in the name of Jesus.

Psalm 136

Oh, give thanks to the Lord, for He is good! For His mercy endures forever. 2 Oh, give thanks to the God of gods! For His mercy endures forever. 3 Oh, give thanks to the Lord of lords! For His mercy endures forever: 4 To Him who alone does great wonders, For His mercy endures forever; 5 To Him who by wisdom made the heavens, For His mercy endures forever; 6 To Him who laid out the earth above the waters, For His mercy endures forever; 7 To Him who made great lights, For His mercy endures forever—

8 The sun to rule by day, For His mercy endures forever; 9 The moon and stars to rule by night, For His mercy endures forever. 10 To Him who struck Egypt in their firstborn, For His mercy endures forever; 11 And brought out Israel from among them, For His mercy endures forever; 12 With a strong hand, and with [a]an outstretched arm, For His mercy endures forever; 13 To Him who divided the Red Sea in two, For His mercy endures forever; 14 And made Israel pass through the midst of it, For His mercy endures forever;

15 But overthrew Pharaoh and his army in the Red Sea, For His mercy endures forever; 16 To Him who led His people through the wilderness, For His mercy endures forever; 17 To Him who struck down great kings, For His mercy endures forever; 18 And slew famous kings, For His mercy endures forever—19 Sihon king of the Amorites, For His mercy endures forever; 20 And Og king of Bashan, For His mercy endures forever— 21 And gave their land as a heritage, For His mercy endures forever;

22 A heritage to Israel His servant, For His mercy endures forever. 23 Who remembered us in our lowly state, For His mercy endures forever; 24 And rescued us from our enemies, For His mercy endures forever; 25 Who gives food to all flesh, For His mercy endures forever. 26 Oh, give thanks to the God of heaven! For His mercy endures forever.

In the name of Jesus. Amen.
